The Plaid “Lady Mary” refers to Mary Lincoln (* 1818 in Lexington, Kentucky, † 1882 in Springfield, Illinois).
She was the wife of the famous sixteenth U.S. President Abraham Lincoln (Republican) and the First Lady
of the United States from 1861 to 1865.
